In June 2025, three tourists from Shanghai, China, purchased 10 gemstones for 41,623 USD (equivalent to 301,000 RMB) at a jewelry store in a seaside resort hotel in Sri Lanka. The gemstones were later identified as counterfeit. Since the three Chinese tourists had already left Sri Lanka and returned to China, upon recommendation from the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, this shopping dispute was ultimately handled by Senior Officer Mr. Prabath, Assistant Superintendent of Police, a member of the South Asia Southeast Asia International Security Alliance.

On August 10, 2025, the South Asia and Southeast Asia International Shipping Development Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the Research Center) was officially established at the Zhonghai International Center in the Central Legal Affairs District of Kunming City, Yunnan Province. Wu Hongfei, Executive Vice Chairman of the Yunnan International Economic, Trade and Cultural Cooperation Center; Lei Jilin, President of Yunnan Vocational College of Transportation; He Jianghua, Vice President of Yunnan Vocational College of Transportation; Ren Zhigang, Deputy Secretary-General of the Yunnan International Economic, Trade and Cultural Cooperation Center; Zhao Changtao, Dean of Zheng He Shipping College of Yunnan Vocational College of Transportation; and representatives from South Asian and Southeast Asian countries including Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka attended the inauguration ceremony. They gathered in Yunnan to experience the opportunities in international shipping development and jointly write a new chapter of cooperation.

On July 28, a large Liberian-flagged container ship "Oriental Sailor" sailing about 190 nautical miles northwest of Yongshu Reef in the Nansha Islands of China suddenly caught fire. The lives of 25 foreign crew members on board and the safety of the South China Sea international shipping route were threatened. The Hainan Maritime Search and Rescue Center responded immediately upon receiving the alarm, quickly launching a rescue operation. After nearly four continuous days and nights of efforts, the fire was successfully extinguished, ensuring the safety of the ship and crew, effectively preventing further cargo loss, avoiding secondary disasters such as marine environmental pollution, and safeguarding the safe and smooth operation of the South China Sea international shipping route.
