In June 2025, three tourists from Shanghai, China, purchased 10 gemstones for $41,623 USD (equivalent to 301,000 RMB) at a jewelry store in a seaside resort hotel in Sri Lanka. The gemstones were later identified as counterfeit. Since the three Chinese tourists had already left Sri Lanka and returned to China, the shopping dispute was ultimately handled by Senior Officer Mr. Prabath, Assistant Superintendent of Police, a member of the South Asia Southeast Asia International Security Alliance, upon recommendation from the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka.
As a member of the South Asia Southeast Asia International Security Alliance, Assistant Superintendent Mr. Prabath is well aware of the honorable mission to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens and legal entities overseas. Thanks to his personal investigation and assistance, the jewelry store at the seaside resort hotel promptly agreed to refund the full amount. The total sum of $41,623 USD was returned to the designated account of the Shanghai tourists through the Bank of China at the agreed time, successfully resolving the shopping dispute and effectively safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens abroad.
